Ayurveda is an ancient Indian art and system of healing originating from the Vedas. It is more than 5000 years old. More than a just treating diseases, it is a science of life. Ayurvedic science of treating imbalances incorporates looking at different body types, lifestyle factors and seasonal behaviors and seasonal nutrition. Treatment is structured according to either detox or nourishing requirements. Disease are understood to be caused by faulty lifestyle and can be corrected by rectifying wrong habits. Illness is understood to be of either excess or deficiency conditions. For treatment herbs, foods, and Panchakarma treatments are used. In our 5 hours introduction class as part of our yoga teacher training, we focus on introducing the concept of Dinacharya, the ayurvedic daily health regimen, nutrition and the introduction of the tri dosha concept. Tridosha is the science of the 3 humors, vata, pitta and kapha or qualities that pervade all living beings. Practicing the daily prescribed ayurvedic routines alone can re-establish good health and is recommended for the aspiring yogini and yogi. Ayurveda is the sister science of Yoga.
